CSV to Markdown Tables: Embed Data in Your Documentation

Markdown has become the default writing format for developer documentation, GitHub READMEs, Notion pages, Confluence, and static-site generators. When you need to include tabular data in any of these tools, converting a CSV to a Markdown pipe table saves you from manually formatting every row.

What the output looks like

ConvertRow produces a GitHub-Flavored Markdown (GFM) pipe table. The first row of your CSV becomes the header, a separator row of dashes is inserted beneath it, and every subsequent row becomes a table body row. This format renders as a clean, formatted table in GitHub, GitLab, VS Code preview, Obsidian, Typora, and most other Markdown tools.

Copy or download

After converting, you can copy the Markdown table to your clipboard with a single click — ready to paste directly into a README, a pull request description, a wiki page, or a Notion block. You can also download it as a .md file if you prefer.

Pipe characters in cell values

If any cell values contain pipe characters (|), the converter automatically escapes them as | to prevent column misalignment in the Markdown output. This is handled automatically — you do not need to pre-process your CSV.

Roundtrip support

If you receive a Markdown table in a README or document and want to analyse it as data, the Markdown to CSV converter on the same page can reverse the process — paste the table and download a clean CSV.
